As a retired teacher with a adult son whose been on medication since 4 ( yes that bad – had a pediatric psychiatrist). We had to do changes through the years. With a strong mom advocate for his 504. Oh did I mention that he was academically gifted but also had a learning disability. He’s a success story two undergraduate degrees from NCSU and is currently taking graduate school classes. Medication and therapy early on can help. Leslie Hinnant Kornegay Excellent advocating! Many children with ADD/ADHD are very bright. The term now is twice exceptional, children who are gifted but also have some learning issues. Unfortunately 2e is not really recognized in NC as a qualifier for an IEP or 504. I am probably going to run into this issue with my youngest son, he’s so bright and has an IEP (for his inattentive ADD as well as some learning delays he experienced from really late language), I just don’t want this to prevent him from taking TD/ AG classes when he’s older. He will be re-evaluated again this year.
You are not alone. So many of us walk through the potholes in heels with you loving our kids thru these days If Amos was diabetic, noone would judge you for giving him insulin. This is just another med, helping him be the best version of himself. Sending love and all positive thoughts. ❤️ ( as a nurse, i would recommend keeping a journal of side effects to share w dr… sometimes it takes a while to find correct dosages)
