You know, Rick, if you ever decided to retire I think you could write a pretty darned good travel novel. Maybe a time travel piece so you could bring in your knowledge of history….hmmm… it was a dark and stormy night ….. wonder if the free museums will be on the chopping block… Back to Denmark in May . Birthday party for father-in-law. Dancing on chairs and pounding fists on tables!! I’m adding – rambling around the many city outdoor markets, with the smells, and the yells, and diversity of people and products.
I do that all the time. I re-visit places I’ve been via Google Maps and Street view. Walk down streets I’ve been on, look at pubs and stores I’ve been in, and very often get that unbelievable rush of feeling that I’m in that very place again. I’m hitchhiking through the Greek countryside…stopping for a repast at a small inn… the menu is all Greek to us…communication by pantomime… led into the kitchen to smell and taste the day’s offerings…they’re all ambrosia. If I were in Germany today, I would spend a week in Baden-Baden and go everyday to the Caracalla Therme Baths, and attend any and all of the concerts at the Sinfonieorchester, (Baden-Baden’s Philharmonic Orchestra) and drop in for lunch at Le Bistro, and dinner at a secret little spot in a courtyard surrounded by ivy covered buildings, now radiantly shimmering red. I would shop for Christmas decorations and of course, again, stay at Rick’s best recommendation- Hotel am Markt, because I miss the bells and the friendly people. Since I was just there in October, maybe I will wait until June so I can enjoy the horse racing at Racecourse Iffezheim.
